College of the Sequoias Unveils the Giant Marketplace: A Modern Campus Store Experience

The College of the Sequoias (COS) in Visalia, California is redefining what a campus store can be with the opening of the Giant Marketplace—a fresh, functional retail space designed to support students with dignity and ease. In partnership with DGS Retail, COS has outfitted the marketplace with custom fixtures that combine modern design with flexibility, durability, and style.

At the heart of the store are wooden bakery island displays, crafted with genuine Lozier gondola shelving and finished in a warm Island Coral stain. These units bring a touch of patisserie charm, with slatted shelves that can be angled or laid flat to enhance visibility of fresh baked goods, pastries, and café items. With capacity to hold up to 4,200 lbs and shelving on both sides, these displays offer exceptional utility in a compact footprint.

To support impulse purchases and seasonal merchandising, COS also installed mobile wood gondola units. Equipped with locking casters, slatted shelves, and three-bin configurations, these displays are ideal for showcasing snacks, cheeses, and to-go items. Their flexibility allows staff to reposition them easily during restocks or layout updates—maximizing both convenience and cleanliness.

Signage throughout the store plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming and intuitive shopping experience. Adjustable T-shape aisle sign holders were added to guide shoppers quickly to the right sections, whether it’s canned goods or frozen foods. Complementing these are magnetic chalkboard gondola signs—versatile enough for handwritten specials or printed promotions, and designed to match the Island Coral accents for a cohesive aesthetic.
